Hi, I’m Andrea. Something you’ll often hear in the fencing industry is “Number Two Pressure Treated Lumber,” and how there are two different options: green pressure treated or brown pressure treated.
It’s important to understand that the wood itself is the same regardless of colour. The term “green pressure treated” or “brown pressure treated” refers to the tint in the chemical applied to the wood, which protects it from insects and decay. The actual lumber is pressure treated, no matter the colour, so we classify it as Number Two pressure treated wood.
At Fence-All, we also offer Number One Cedar, which is an entirely different type of lumber. However, when it comes to Number Two Pressure Treated Wood, it comes in either brown or green. Please note that availability may vary—sometimes we only offer one colour depending on the time of year.
To sum up: the colour refers to the tint in the treatment, not the lumber itself, and it’s always pressure treated. Be sure to check with your sales representative for the current options.
