When installing a new gate, there are few variables to consider: Does the gate swing in or out? Are the hinges on the left or the right? Traditionally, getting the wrong hardware meant a frustrating trip back to the store.
That is why we use a universal, reversible gate latch system on our installs.
Here the hardware is attached on the left. If it was attached on the right it would be “flipped” over.
How It Works: The Upside-Down Advantage
If you look closely at the hardware, the magic is in the symmetry. The mounting brackets on both the latch receiver and finger are identical on the top and bottom.
- Left-Hand Swing: Installed right-side up, the latch smoothly catches the finger as the gate closes.
- Right-Hand Swing: If your gate swings from the opposite side, there is no need to order a specialized left-handed latch. The installer simply flips the exact same hardware upside down.
Because the internal mechanism features a dual-sided catch, it functions perfectly either way. The spring-loaded lever works flawlessly whether it is oriented to the left or the right.
