It’s a great question, and one of particular importance to Canadians given our unforgiving climate. Fortunately there’s a clear answer.
Vinyl is built to last
Vinyl is the only fence that carries a lifetime warranty (conditions apply, see details here). It’s uniquely designed to meet the challenges the march of the seasons brings. Heat, cold, rain, snow, hail, sleet: vinyl can withstand it all. Vinyl fences were a fairly rare sight in the late ’80s but they’ve become quite fashionable as the technology has matured. We’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions about vinyl. You can check it out here.
More options
Despite the success of vinyl fencing, many folks still prefer the look and feel of a wood fence. Wood fences have no product warranty as per the industry standard, but we do have options for folks who love the look of a wood fence and want the security of a lengthy warranty as well.
PostMaster Steel Posts
Wood fences can be built on steel posts. The cost is typically $10/ft more than the usual fence price. PostMaster posts have a 15 year manufacturer warranty. Note that this covers the posts only, not the rest of the fence. But the upgrade is wise insurance given that the life of a fence usually depends on the posts.
Postsaver Pro-Sleeves
Postsaver Pro-Sleeves are heat-shrinkable sleeves with a meltable liner. Pro-Sleeves are heat applied to posts around the vulnerable ground line area of the posts to protect them from rot and decay. They carry a 20 year manufacturer warranty. It doesn’t apply for the rest of the fence, but they target the weakest link so it’s a terrific way to extend the life of your entire installation.
