It’s a frequent question, and the answer is yes with a few caveats. A residential fence can’t be more than 2.13 metres high, for example, where the limit is 3 metres for commercial (see By-law No. 2003-462).

Chain Link

In Ottawa, the residential code doesn’t allow plain galvanized chain link mesh. Vinyl coated mesh is fine though, and looks terrific. If the colour and height are right we can install chain link in a commercial grade with no special permit required.

Other materials

We offer beefed up versions of all our fences for folks looking for something a little more heavy duty than the residential standard. This typically involves larger posts and thicker material for the frame and/or fill.

sound inhibitor

This Sound Inhibitor fence with steel posts and a two-ply sandwich fill was built to block noise from kids in the pool next door.
