Hard digging is an extra charge to cover difficult digging conditions. Often it’s not even a factor. If the soil conditions are routine, all good, you don’t even have to think about it. But sometimes the job is more challenging.
Any soil conditions that are abnormal (crushed stone, rocks, tree roots, old cement, etc.) is considered hard digging. The installers will show you what they’re facing before you’re presented with the charges so that everyone will be on the same page before the job continues.
Does Fence-All make money off Hard Digging?
No! The charge is strictly to compensate the installers for the extra time they’ll need to dig the post holes. There is no mark-up on it.

How is the charge calculated?
Hard digging is billed on a per hole basis. If you’ve got a dozen post holes that are fine and two that are abnormal the charge will only apply to the latter. The installers will show you exactly what the problem is and give you the count.
