Does stain offer protection?
Yes, but in a limited way. For instance, some stains reflect ultraviolet light and can keep the fence from fading in the sun. Others can be unappealing for insects and mites.
But protection isn’t the primary purpose of stain.
What’s the purpose of stain?
The main goal is aesthetic. Stain soaks into the wood and enhances the colour, grain, and texture of the product in a way that’s pleasing to the eye.
If I get my fence pre-stained does that mean the wood is warrantied?
No. We don’t offer warranties on wood (as per our industry standard). As noted above, stain generally isn’t about protection. Wood will still warp and crack as natural products do. Imperfections in the stain itself are not covered under warranty either.
Is the staining done on site or in your shop?
All the staining is done in our shop before the job is shipped to you.
What’s the advantage of staining in the shop?
We can get every nook and cranny of the material stained before the fence is put together. Also, there’s less mess for your lawn and surroundings.

Can I get pressure treated lumber pre-stained?
Unfortunately no. Pressure treated lumber has moisture levels that make staining problematic.
How much does pre-staining cost?
Pre-staining starts at $10 a foot for a basic Garden Wall in a wood tone, but the prices can vary substantially depending on the fence model and type of stain. Ask your sales rep or contact us directly to get an estimate for your project.
