If you’ve recently installed privacy slats in your chain link fence and noticed they don’t quite reach the bottom, you’re not alone. It’s a common question—and there’s a good reason for it.
Privacy slats are typically made a bit shorter than the full height of the fence. This isn’t a manufacturing error or a cost-cutting trick. It’s actually done on purpose to account for grass, soil, or uneven ground at the base of the fence. If the slats extended all the way to the bottom, they could bend, buckle, or get caught in the grass, making installation more difficult and reducing their lifespan.
So, while they may look a little short at first glance, the design helps them stay secure and upright—right where they’re supposed to be.
